About the role

About Nscale

Nscale is the GPU cloud engineered for AI. We provide cost-effective, high-performance infrastructure for AI start-ups and large enterprise customers. Nscale enables AI-focused companies to achieve superior results by reducing the complexity of AI development. Our GPU cloud bolsters technical capabilities and directly supports strategic business outcomes, including cost management, rapid innovation, and environmental responsibility. We thrive on a culture of relentless innovation, ownership, and accountability, where every team member takes pride in their work and drives it with excellence and urgency. As an Nscaler, you’ll build trust through openness and transparency, where everyone is inspired to do their best work. If you join our team, you’ll be contributing to building the technology that powers the future.

About the Role

We’re hiring a Director, Innovation & Commissioning to lead innovation outcomes and commissioning governance across Nscale’s North America data centre portfolio. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role at the intersection of design, construction, commissioning, and operations, with a clear mandate to improve facility flexibility for future GPU hardware, raise energy efficiency, and drive repeatable reductions in capital cost.

You’ll shape how commissioning is embedded from the design phase through Integrated Systems Testing, while partnering closely with Design, Construction, Operations, Procurement, and internal product and platform stakeholders. You’ll also work across customer and internal requirements, helping ensure our facilities are delivered with predictable performance, operational readiness, and clear technical traceability.

What You’ll be Doing

- Identify, evaluate, and implement innovative infrastructure solutions that improve data centre flexibility for future GPU hardware, energy efficiency, and capital efficiency.
- Establish practical pilot approaches for new ideas, including success metrics, risk reviews, deployment plans, and lessons learned.
- Translate deployment learnings into updates to standards, basis-of-design guidance, and commissioning requirements.
- Lead design reviews with a commissioning lens to ensure facilities are testable, maintainable, and aligned with turnover and operational-readiness requirements.
- Build commissioning expectations into design documentation early, including controls interfaces, monitoring strategy, sequences, and acceptance criteria.
- Define commissioning quality standards for design deliverables and ensure traceability from design intent to test coverage.
- Select, onboard, and manage third-party commissioning partners supporting test scripts, QA/QC plans, readiness gates, and commissioning documentation.
- Oversee commissioning execution from Level 3 through IST, ensuring issues are tracked to closure and readiness criteria are met before turnover.
- Serve as a key technical partner in clarifying customer infrastructure requirements, due diligence requests, commissioning expectations, efficiency targets, and operational constraints.
- Lead cross-functional decisions on customer-driven changes, documenting impacts to cost, schedule, risk, and performance.
- Partner with Construction, Operations, Procurement, and delivery stakeholders to align commissioning plans with site constraints, phasing, maintenance windows, and turnover needs.
- Influence vendor strategy and technical requirements to improve equipment readiness, testability, and systems integration outcomes.

About You

- 5+ years of experience in data centre design, construction, commissioning, or a closely related mission-critical infrastructure environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or an equivalent relevant discipline.
- Experience leading technical workstreams across internal teams, contractors, and third-party engineering or commissioning partners.
- Strong understanding of commissioning, design review, technical quality, and turnover requirements in complex infrastructure environments.
- Ability to operate with sound judgement in dynamic delivery settings and communicate clearly in high-consequence situations.
- Comfortable connecting Design, Construction, Commissioning, and Operations teams to drive aligned, measurable outcomes.
- High standards for documentation, execution quality, and continuous improvement informed by field feedback and operational learning.

Nice to Have

- Deep experience with data centre commissioning programmes, QA/QC processes, and Integrated Systems Testing.
- Experience working with customer technical due diligence processes and translating customer requirements into delivery decisions.
- Familiarity with high-density GPU environments and the infrastructure choices needed to support future hardware generations.
- Experience shaping standards, templates, and repeatable delivery mechanisms across a growing portfolio.
