Inherent is an AI research lab building Faraday, a general-purpose inventive AI system meant to work alongside human scientists to generate hypotheses and accelerate discovery across scientific domains. It frames its approach as "AI-native science": rather than fitting AI into existing lab workflows, it applies recursive self-improvement at the level of the whole organisation, pairing AI Scientist agents with autonomous labs to redesign the R&D process. The company is incorporated as a public benefit corporation. It was founded in 2026 by Tantum Collins, Edward Hughes, and Louis Kirsch — all former DeepMind researchers, with Collins also a former AI policy adviser in the Biden White House — alongside Kaloyan Aleksiev, an infrastructure engineer previously at Reka AI and Microsoft; Matt Clifford, co-founder of Entrepreneur First, is a strategic adviser. Inherent emerged from stealth in May 2026 with a $50M seed round co-led by Index Ventures and Radical Ventures, with participation from NVIDIA's NVentures, Ex/Ante, Metaplanet, Macroscopic Ventures, and Mythos Ventures. Legal entity: Inherent Laboratories.
