DataHub is an open-source metadata platform — data catalog, lineage, observability, and governance — that its maker, Acryl Data, positions as a context platform for AI agents. The project originated at LinkedIn and is developed alongside an open-source community of roughly 3,000 organizations and 15,000 members; Acryl Data commercializes it as the managed DataHub Cloud. The platform unifies metadata from warehouses, BI tools, and business applications into a context store that serves both human data teams and AI agents through an MCP server, APIs, and SDKs. DataHub was founded in 2021 by Swaroop Jagadish and Shirshanka Das, both former LinkedIn engineers who helped build the original DataHub project. Customers include Netflix, Visa, Pinterest, Notion, Chime, and Deutsche Telekom. The company raised a $35M Series B in 2025 led by Bessemer Venture Partners, bringing total funding to $65M, with earlier participation from 8VC and In-Q-Tel; it rebranded from Acryl Data to DataHub that year.
